Iowa crops developing ahead of normal

Crop development and hay harvest remain ahead of schedule in Iowa.

USDA’s latest weekly crop update says corn is 22 percent silking with isolated reports of corn in the dough stage.  The corn condition rating remained at 61 percent good to excellent.

Soybeans are 46 percent blooming with seven percent setting pods.  The crop is rated 52 percent good to excellent.

Nearly 70 percent of the oat crop is turning color, and the second cutting of alfalfa is a week ahead of normal at 58 percent complete.
