Iowa crops now slightly ahead of normal

The latest crop progress report for Iowa shows the corn and soybean crops are, on average, slightly ahead of normal–despite planting challenges in northern areas of the state.

Statewide, as of Sunday, 96 percent of the corn crop was planted with 77 percent emerged. Soybean growers had 81 percent of the expected crop planted, with 44 percent of the crop emerged.

Farmers in northern sections were close to done with corn, but still had about one-third of soybeans to plant.
