Iowa dairy farmers discuss hunger, sustainability with youth

An eastern Iowa dairy farm family recently met with young people from around the world to help educate them about dairy in the U.S.

Ben Selman and his wife Amber operate a dairy operation near Maquoketa. Ben tells Brownfield the youth are the future of the industry.

“Educating them on what dairy has to bring to the table as far as hunger and hunger needs in other countries and what we can provide to those countries,” he said, “as well as just the concentration of nutrients that dairy can bring to some of those countries that are struggling to produce their own food for themselves.”

Amber Selman says the young people were interested in the dairy industry’s strong track record when it comes to sustainability.
