Iowa farmer concerned about nitrogen loss

A central Iowa farmer is concerned about the combination of a mild winter and wet spring.

Corey Hillebo grows corn and soybeans near Polk City.

“We had a very warm February and got started kind of early, and (because of) how wet we’ve been, we might have some nitrogen loss out there. Nitrogen to the atmosphere, nitrogen to leaching, if it was in the wrong form at the time.”

He tells Brownfield there have been some planting windows in between rains.
