Northwest Iowa farmer Kelly Nieuwenhuis says the 2023 growing season has been better than expected.
“We’ve been pretty fortunate,” he said. “We caught some spotty rains here lately, anywhere from 2-to-3 ½ inches in our area over the last two weeks. If we avoid the excessive heat, I think we’ll be good for a while.”
He tells Brownfield working with dry conditions is nothing new.
“We’ve been in an excessive drought area for the last couple of years and actually still produced pretty decent crops.” All counties in Iowa have been listed as drought areas on the U.S.
