Not every financial indicator points to more corn and less soybeans in 2019.
University of Minnesota Extension soybean agronomist Seth Naeve says the prevailing thought is soybeans won’t be as profitable mostly because of the trade dispute with China.
“On the other hand, we have the more urgent issue (of) just getting the resources to put the crop in. There’s going to be farmers and pockets of farmers that just don’t have the capital to put big corn acreage out there.”
Even if the corn-soybean price ratio favors corn, he tells Brownfield some farmers will still be priced out of expanding their corn acres.
