Kentucky corn and soybean planting continues to run behind

Farmers continued to work around weather delays to advance planting progress.  However, according to the USDA’s Weekly Crop Progress and Conditions report, both corn and soybean planting pace is significantly behind recent years.

Corn is 73 percent planted compared to 89 percent last year with 58 percent of the crop emerged and 72 percent is rated good to excellent.  Soybeans are 56 percent planted compared to 69 percent last year and 41 percent emerged.  Tobacco is 25 percent set.
