Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed legislation that supports the state’s voluntary stewardship into law.
Senate Bill 494 introduced by Michigan Senate Ag Committee Chair Kevin Daley renews current fertilizer and pesticide fees paid by farmers and agribusinesses to fund the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program.
MAEAP Program manager Joe Kelpinski in an interview earlier with Brownfield said his number one focus remains increasing participation in the program.
“MAEAP is a very good vehicle for farmers to demonstrate that yes they are doing things in a manner that is sustainable,” he says.
