The Holstein Association is encouraging farmers to switch
to Radio Frequency Identification tags to get a jump start on USDA
requirements.
All dairy cattle in 2023 will need RFID tags for interstate
movement to protect the nation’s livestock industry from animal diseases.
At the end of this year, USDA will stop providing free
metal tags and farmers will need to switch to an approved vendor. The metal tags will be obsolete in 2021 and
by 2023, animals will need to be retagged.
