The U.S. Foreign Ag Service has raised it’s 2019 forecast for fluid milk production in Mexico as it’s steadily growing to meet cheese demand. However, a lack of high quality and value-added ingredients means imports are filling gaps.
Retaliatory tariffs reduced U.S. exports of cheese to Mexico in July and although imports into Mexico have recovered because of price competitiveness and proximity, USDA says continued tariffs could open the door for more European cheese imports.
