Michigan ag applauds deer baiting veto

The Agricultural Leaders of Michigan are applauding their

Governor’s veto of deer baiting legislation.

Byrum with the Michigan Agri-Business Association, Mary Kelpinski with the Michigan

Pork Producers Association, and Ken Nobis with the Michigan Milk Producers

Association say Governor Gretchen Whitmer did the right thing by blocking a

bill that would have lifted the state’s ban on deer baiting.

The ALM calls the legislation dangerous and says it would

have increased the chances of spreading Chronic Wasting Disease, Bovine

Tuberculosis and other diseases, putting domestic animals like cows at a higher

risk.  They call the current baiting ban

a commonsense approach to help stop the spread of diseases.
