Michigan crop planting continues ahead of average

Dry bean planting started last week in Michigan

The USDA says 13 percent of the crop is now in the ground, ahead of the five-year average.

Michigan soybeans are 79 percent planted and 58 percent emerged, while 86 percent of corn is planted and 66 percent has emerged, all ahead of the five-year average. 

Corn is rated 76 percent good to excellent while sugarbeets are at 95. First cutting of alfalfa is now 31 percent complete.
