A killing frost ended the growing season for much of
Michigan last week. USDA reporters say
frost was recorded in Lapeer County, in east-central Michigan east of Flint. Several state reporters say corn did not
reach maturity.
The harvest for soybeans, and corn for grain and silage is
continuing. Moisture levels last week
were around 26% on harvested corn and around 15% on soybeans with no
significant dry-down because of weather.
The apple harvest is nearly complete. The sugarbeet harvest is picking up in the
Michigan Thumb, and early USDA yield reports are good.
