Michigan potato growers are excited about the opportunity additional potato exports could bring to Great Lakes farmers.
Dr. Kelly Turner with the Michigan Potato Industry Commission says there’s now more room domestically for Michigan-grown potatoes following last year’s opened access into Mexico.
“That is fantastic news for us here in Michigan because that means those potatoes grown in the West keep going West, they don’t come East,” she says.
During this week’s Michigan House Ag Committee hearing, Turner discussed trade efforts that are now focused on Japan.
