Michigan soybean harvest makes steady progress

A southern Michigan farmer says dry weather earlier this week helped get soybeans ready for harvest.

From the combine, Scott Welden tells Brownfield, “This week we’ve been busy harvesting soybeans.” “Prior to that, we were harvesting our edible dry beans, but we are done with that portion, and in the thick of soybean harvest at the moment with rain in the forecast, I’m actually harvesting right now,” he shares.

Welden says beans are averaging between 40 and 65 bushels per acre, which he calls respectable.
