The Michigan Sugar Company says a dry growing season has reduced the sugar content of this year’s beat crop.
Executive Vice President Jim Ruhlman tells Brownfield sugarbeet harvest in the state is about two-thirds complete. “The early indications are that yields are ok, we’re about at that 30 ton per acre average, but our sugars are down pretty significantly.”
He says harvest reports from Minnesota and North Dakota also show lower sugar content in those regions.
