Direct cash cattle trade activity is seeing some improvement at midday. Bids have surfaced at $187 live and $292 dressed, both in the North. Asking prices are around $185-plus live in the South and $295-plus dressed in the North. Packer inquiry will likely improve as the day progresses, but it’s quite possible significant trade volume is going to hold out until sometime on Friday. So far this week, only a handful of deals have been reported in parts of the North with a range of $289 to $293, but that’s certainly not enough business to establish an accurate price trend.
