Mild, warm, increasingly wet for parts of the Heartland

In the Caribbean, Tropical Storm Karen will move northward, passing near or over Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands later Tuesday. Impacts from Karen may include heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and locally gusty winds.

Across the U.S. mainland, cooler air will be firmly in place by week’s end in the North and West, but late-season heat will persist across the South.

Meanwhile, 5-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 3 inches across portions of the eastern Plains and upper Midwest, mainly due to late-week showers.
