Milder weather returns, but moisture-laden and harsh for some across the Heartland

Across the Corn Belt, wintry precipitation, including freezing rain, is spreading northeastward into the middle Mississippi Valley and environs.  Icy Midwestern conditions, combined with pre-existing snow cover, continue to complicate livestock operations, as well as rural travel.

On the Plains, moisture wrapping around a departing high-pressure system is resulting in some wintry precipitation— mostly freezing rain—in parts of eastern Kansas and central and eastern Oklahoma.  The remainder of the nation’s midsection is experiencing dry weather and near- or below-normal temperatures.
