Minnesota Congressman wants HPAI addressed in next farm bill

A U.S. Congressman who represents the top turkey-producing state in the country says the farm bill needs to account for highly pathogenic avian influenza.

Minnesota Republican Brad Finstad tells Brownfield there should be additional resources for the National Veterinary Stockpile.

“Also the testing and indemnification of producers who have struggled through the challenging times with avian influenza. Right now we’re going through it again, we’ve had over 20 affected commercial flocks (affecting) close to 700,000 birds in Minnesota.”

He says members of Congress need to grasp the economic consequences of avian flu.
