A low-pathogenic strain of avian flu has been found in another Minnesota turkey flock. The Minnesota Board of Animal Health confirms the infected flock of 13-week-old hens is located in Stearns County in central Minnesota.
Dr. Dale Lauer is the Director of the Minnesota Poultry Testing Lab. He tells Brownfield the virus was discovered through random testing. “We collect blood samples prior to processing, and if in fact, those samples are positive, we go back in the flock to determine whether we’ve got active virus circulating.”
Lauer tells Brownfield the low-path avian flu is much different than the deadly high-path flu they dealt with in 2015.
