Minnesota thawing out from harsh winter

The USDA says farm activity was scarce last week as
Minnesota thaws out from a harsh winter.

In its first Crop Progress report for 2019, the department
mentioned widespread snow cover and melting snow as reasons for the lack of
fieldwork.

USDA says a few farmers were able to spread manure in the morning
when ground was solid enough to support equipment.

Topsoil and subsoil moisture levels are almost uniformly
rated adequate to surplus across the state.
