Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst calls legislative action on the state’s gas tax a big win for rural Missourians and the entire state. Lawmakers passed a bill that will let voters decide whether to increase the gas tax by two-and-a-half cents each year for four years.
“As much as we hate, particularly in these trying times, to pay extra taxes, Missouri Roads need more funding,” Hurst told Brownfield Ag News.
Hurst, who farms at Tarkio in Missouri’s northwest corner, says the road repair funding mechanism hasn’t changed since the early 1990s.
