Missouri farmer nears decision on corn planting

A western Missouri farmer watched a crop insurance prevented planting deadline pass on Saturday but hasn’t given up on planting. Danny Barker has a third of his corn yet to plant and all his soybeans. He and his brother must decide soon whether to plant the rest of their corn. “I don’t mind planting on the first of June, but I hesitate more on the fifteenth of June,” Barker told Brownfield Ag News at his farm near Lone Jack, Missouri, “It’s an ongoing discussion on what we do on our corn and hope that we don’t hit that late plant date for soybeans.” Putting the current situation in perspective, Barker says he’ll take a wet year over a dry year.
