Mixed corn results as SD harvest continues

A farmer in eastern South Dakota says after several days of rain delays corn harvest has finally begun and the crop is all over the board.

David Struck says the irrigated corn looks good with yields up to 290 bushels an acre, but the dryland corn was affected by the drought and extreme heat.

“It’s been running between 100 to 130 bushels an acre,” says Struck. “Normally, on dryland we’re in the 160 to 170 bushels an acre range.”

Struck says good harvest progress is likely in the next week and the corn will go right into storage on farm.
