A carbon pipeline project that would stretch through Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and the Dakotas continues to get mixed feedback from South Dakota agriculture ahead of a South Dakota Public Utilities Commission meeting in September.
The 2,000-mile Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline would capture carbon dioxide from ethanol plants and move it via pipeline to North Dakota to be stored underground. This would be used to reduce the carbon footprint of ethanol production.
South Dakota Soybean Growers Association Executive Director Jerry Schmitz says the association doesn’t have an official stance on the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline, but soybean growers have made it clear where they stand on private property rights and eminent domain, the act of taking land or property for use without approval from the landowner.
