Most South Dakota farmers are starting the week with adequate moisture levels as they prepare to plant.
Topsoil moisture levels are 68% adequate with 1% surplus and 27% short as of Sunday. Subsoil levels are similar with 62% reported adequate with 3% surplus and 29% short.
Fifty-six percent of the state’s winter wheat crop is in good condition, with only 1% excellent and 36% fair. Spring wheat planting is 23% finished, and 10% ahead of the five year average.
