Momentum is building for planting soybeans early.
DEKALB Asgrow agronomist Andrew Penney covers southwest Iowa and says this will be year three of encouraging growers to plant early.
“If we do have those days, you know April 5th through 10th where the environment is warm, things look good, get the bugs out of the planter. Maybe get one field of corn in with a hybrid that you know has really good early season emergence, but then switch to beans.”
He tells Brownfield the yield bump for corn planted April 10th compared to April 25th is not that significant.
