Naig monitoring EV developments out of Washington

Iowa’s Ag Secretary says he’s concerned about electric vehicle mandates from the Biden administration.

Mike Naig tells Brownfield government mandates shouldn’t drive the vehicle marketplace. “I’m not anti-EV,” he said. “What I would love to see is a more balanced approach to this. I don’t think it’s wise for our country to go headlong into something that we’re not ready for. And by the way, those battery component parts largely come from China.”

In a recent letter, 16 GOP governors described President Biden’s mandate requiring two-thirds of all new vehicles be battery electric by 2032 as “unrealistic, costly, and expensive.” Nebraska’s Jim Pillen, Kim Reynolds of Iowa, Mike Parson from Missouri, and South Dakota’s Kristi Noem were among the governors that signed onto the letter to the president.
