Near ideal weather across much of the Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, warm, dry weather is ideal for

late-developing corn and soybeans. Despite the favorable conditions, only 29%

of the U.S. corn crop was fully mature by September 22—the least amount of

progress on that date since 2009, when 26% was mature. Similarly, 34% of the

U.S. soybeans were dropping leaves by September 22, representing the slowest

pace of development since 1996, when 33% were dropping leaves.

On the Plains, showers are occurring across both

northern and southern sections of the region.
