Dairy organizations in North and South America are joining forces to promote how agriculture has a positive impact on climate.
The National Milk Producers Federation, the U.S. Dairy Export Council, and national agricultural organizations from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia, and Colombia have agreed to a set of principles that will be used to engage world leaders on livestock, climate, and trade issues.
In a statement, the groups say global convenings and climate proposals often reflect ideologies at the expense of science, ignore the progress that the industry has made in reducing emissions, and try to impose one-size-fits-all approaches on an industry they do not fully understand. They plan to promote policies that encourage sustainable productivity growth while taking into consideration the needs of the livestock industry and profitability for farmers.
