USDA agencies, private landowners and stakeholders have joined together to control and eradicate feral swine populations through a farm bill-based pilot program. Kevin Norton with USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) says they have teamed up with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to offer $75 million in funding for the new Feral Swine Eradication and Control Pilot Program. “It is clear that it’s going to take not only the federal effort, but it’s going to take a private lands effort that involves the land stewards and local partnerships coming together.” Funded projects will include feral swine removal and support for restoration efforts from both agencies in 11 southern states.
