The new president of the National Pork Board says hog farmers will continue adhering to “We Care” principles and showing how they are having an impact.
South Dakota pork producer Steven Rommereim has been elected president of the Pork Board/Checkoff, “The new research from the University of Arkansas continues to show that pig farmers are using less land, less water and fewer energy per pounds of pork produced.”
Rommereim shared at World Pork Expo some of that research, from 2010 through 2015, based on pounds of pork produced, “Pork production used 1.72% less water, we emitted 4.66% less carbon, we used 8.02% less energy and needed 8.54% less land.”
He is the owner, manager and operator of Highland Swine in Alcester, South Dakota which markets 10-thousand pigs a year.
