NMPF says new Dairy Margin program should work better

The National Milk Producers Federation says changes to dairy policy in the 2018 Farm Bill will greatly benefit dairy farmers.

Missouri dairy farmer Randy Mooney, chair of NMPF, says the 2014 Farm Bill didn’t reflect the economic conditions on dairy farms or what the industry needed, but the 2018 legislation does.  “We sought higher margin levels, more affordable premiums for all farms, more flexibility in the coverage, and I’m glad to say this bill checks all of those boxes.”

CEO Jim Mulhern says improvements made to the Margin Protection Program this year resulted in about 44 cents per hundredweight payments for the average farm milking just over 200 cows.
