Governor Kristi Noem says her position has not changed on legalizing industrial hemp in South Dakota. Following the USDA’s issuing of hemp regulatory guidelines, Governor Noem says she’s still opposed to industrial hemp legalization because of its possible impact on enforcement of drug laws. South Dakota is one of a few states prohibiting industrial hemp production.
Federal guidelines require states to permit interstate transportation of hemp, but Noem says she’ll work to ensure that doesn’t weaken South Dakota drug laws.
