Northern cattle producers: disaster programs need an update

A cattle feeder from southwest Minnesota says there several policy issues that will be discussed at the Cattle Industry Convention this week.

Mike Landuyt is the Region 3 Vice President for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and he says several Midwestern states want to see updates to the Livestock Risk Protection Program and USDA’s disaster programs.

“We just keep tweaking on them and when we find a hiccup, we do what we can to fix it and hopefully, that will eventually be worked out.”

He says the Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association would like for there to be tweaks to the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.
