Harvest is progressing well in northern Missouri. A mile south of the Iowa State Line, Gary Porter, of Mercer, Missouri, is on the northern edge of Missouri’s most severe drought area but is surprised by his yields.
“We’re on the border [between severe drought and adequate rain], so we’ve got good corn and bad corn,” Porter told Brownfield Ag News while taking a break from harvest. “Even in the same row your yield can go from 200 [bushels per acre] to below 100.”
Gary’s pleased with his 160 bushel field average in the particular spot where rain shut off from June to August.
