An atmospheric scientist says early spring weather may not be ideal for crop establishment in portions of the United States.
Eric Snodgrass with Nutrien Ag Solutions tells brownfield the Northern Plains is getting a late-season blizzard this week, building on existing snowpack, so spring flooding will likely delay planting at least another month.
“I don’t like that the Climate Prediction Center is forecasting once we get through mid-April, there is a risk of cooler conditions in the north.”
In areas like central Illinois, Snodgrass says soil temperatures remain wet and cool at the start of April.
