University of Illinois weed scientist Aaron Hager says farmers should start planning their weed-control strategies for fall emerging and winter annual weeds.
He says fall herbicide application can provide better weed control than similar applications in the spring.
“So an advantage to fall application trying to target a species like horseweed or marestail is the ability to use different products in the fall of the year and at rates that oftentimes are much better suited for a particular species compared with the same product rates that we could use in the spring of the year.”
But, he tells Brownfield it isn’t fit for every acre and farmers should scout fields before making any decisions.
