The USDA’s NRCS agency has set May 10th as the
deadline for Conservation Stewardship Program applications for Fiscal Year
2019.
Jimmy Bramblett, deputy chief of NRCS, tells Brownfield Ag News the CSP has changed in the 2018 farm bill from acreage-based to cash-based – but, growers won’t see a difference at their levels, “Previously, it was 7.9 Million acres that we could enroll. Now, we have up to $700-Million that we can use to enroll landowners, producers and woodland owners into this program.”
The NRCS “EQIP” program offers assistance to organic growers
and, Bramblett says, , “Now in the Conservation Stewardship Program there’s a
similar provision to offer incentives for those individuals who are interested
in trying to do more organic activities on their operation.”
The CSP is designed for those who are already engaged in
conservation practices and want to take them to a higher level.
