Missouri’s extreme shift in weather from spring planting to summer has created some nutrient concerns.
Winfield United agronomist Andy Schmidt tells Brownfield there’s concern for corn now that the silking and grain fill process has begun, “We’re in all time demand for nutrients like nitrogen and potassium right now in our corn fields.”
Schmidt says tissue monitoring is called for, “If growers would like to take tissue samples it would be at that R1 growth stage right now and through grain fill to see what kind of nutrient status we have in our corn crop.”
Schmidt says they recommend a proactive approach for crop health and recommend tissue sampling for both corn and soybeans and making any needed soil nutrient adjustments.
