OCM files brief in GIPSA rule withdrawal case

The Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) has filed a brief with the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals to support its case against the USDA’s withdrawal of the GIPSA rule last year. Joe Maxwell is the executive director of OCM, “We also believe that we’ll be able to have a hearing in regards to Secretary Perdue’s withdrawal of the Farmers Fair Practices rules.”

The rules were written in 2016 as a redefinition of the old GIPSA “packers and stockyards act” of 1921 but were withdrawn, for the most part, last fall by USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue.
