Opinions on cattle traceability vary

Cattle traceability for disease tracking has received mixed

opinions from cattle producers.

Matt Hardecke, the treasurer for the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association,

tells Brownfield it’s hard to tell what a traceability program would look like,

but said most producers support a voluntary traceability program.

“What does it look like,” Hardecke said. “You know, I mean you

go all the from producers that want mandatory to producers that don’t want

anything. And so, there is no real unified front, I think the bell curve kind

of points towards a voluntary program.”

He said a main concern for cattle producers is possible

misuse of their information.
