Peanut planting, alfalfa hay cutting begin in Arkansas

Arkansas farmers made significant planting progress last week.

As of Sunday, the USDA reports more than half of the corn crop is planted at 68% complete, ahead of the 5-year average of 53%. The crop is rated 66% good to excellent with 39% emerged.

Soybean planting reached 34%, more than double the average pace for this time of year, with 16% emerged.

51% of rice is planted, ahead of the average 32%, with 21% of the crop emerged.
