U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue tells Brownfield the administration is working on resolving the remaining trade issues with Mexico and Canada outside of the newly agreed upon USMCA free-trade deal, “We understand while we want to protect our steel industry these retaliatory tariffs on ag products have been very detrimental to our ag industry.” Mexico has tariffs on pork, cheese and other U.S. products. Canada has tariffs on a number of U.S. food products.
Perdue says, “hopefully,” progress will be made very soon, saying, “The president, White House, USTR and others are working on getting these off as soon as possible.” Canadian and Mexican officials reportedly met in Ottawa on Monday, calling on the U.S.
