A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9th, at
the Turner County Courthouse in Parker, South Dakota, to consider a CAFO permit
for Sonstegard Foods.
The family-owned company wants a permit to build a chick rearing barn in Turner
County. The climate-controlled barn is designed to raise 250,000 chicks from day-old
to 17 weeks, when they’re moved to an egg-laying farm. The design includes a structure
to store manure to be used as fertilizer.
