Peters and Farm Bureau celebrate passage of ag inspectors bill

The Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee

says the shortage of USDA inspectors at ports of entry is a threat to the

nation’s food supply and Congress has made filling positions a priority.

Senator Gary Peters of Michigan says his bipartisan bill,

Protecting America’s Food and Agriculture Act of 2019, is off to the President’s

desk after it was passed by the U.S. House earlier this week and will enhance

the country’s first line of defense by appropriating more than $220

million over the next three years to fill positions.
