The USDA says placements of cattle into U.S. feedlots fell 2% from 2021.
There were 1.93 million head placed in feedlots during November, with most of those cattle weighing less than 800 pounds, heading to market next spring.
November marketings were 1% above last year at 1.89 million head as processors try to keep up with beef demand. Marketings were the highest for November since the series began in 1996.
The total number of cattle on feed on December 1st was 11.7 million head, down 3% on the year.
