The President of the Michigan Corn Growers Association says he plans to wrap up planting Friday in the Thumb.
Jason McConnachie grows corn, sugarbeets dry beans and wheat, as well as organic corn and black beans in Sanilac County. He tells Brownfield while rain has delayed some fieldwork, they’ve been able to catch up. “We finished planting our sugarbeets earlier this week, on Monday I believe, and we should be finishing up planting up our corn here today.”
He says this season will be the second year he’s grown some crops organically which has helped offset lower commodity prices.
