A pork industry leader says U.S. hog farmers cannot let concerns
about African swine fever blind them from the threat of other foreign animal
diseases.
David Preisler is CEO of the Minnesota Pork Producers Association.
“I know that African swine fever has gotten our attention, but that same sort of risk exists with Foot-and-Mouth Disease or hog cholera. So I think we need to look at the big picture of disease.”
He tells Brownfield it wasn’t that long ago FMD stood out as the foreign animal disease most pork producers feared most.
